Teatime Traditional Scone Mix


Our artisan-made Teatime Traditional Scone Mix will be the talk of your tea party! They are definitely tea-room quality. They come out fluffy every time, even right from the freezer!

The mix is considered the starting point for many other scone flavors. All that you need to add to the base is 3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) butter, and 1 cup buttermilk (or vegan alternatives).

Traditionally, scones are made plain and served with butter and preserves, but this recipe allows you to dress up your scones with little effort. A recipe card comes with each scone mix so you can try those ideas or create your own recipes! If you prefer a simpler taste, leave them plain and sprinkle with a cinnamon sugar mixture. It's up to you!

You will find our easy-to-make scone mix very versatile. Since it makes 16 scones, you can easily bake 8 scones and freeze the other 8. You can mix and match each bag too -- try making chocolate chip for 8, and blueberry with the other 8. You could also make the whole batch and freeze them for another day. Perfect to have on hand for that unexpected guest or that spur-of-the-moment tea party! They only take 13-18 minutes to bake (depending on your oven). Clear instructions are written on the back of the scone mix.

Freezing Instructions:

Once the dough is cut into scones, either the triangle shape or bisquit shape, lay them on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Place the uncovered cookie sheet into the freezer for 2 hours. Once they are frozen, remove the scones (they come off easily) and wrap with plastic wrap or place in a zipper freezer bag. Don't forget to mark the outside of the bag with the date, scone flavor, and oven temperature (425°). Return your scones to the freezer. They stay fresh in the freezer for up to 2 months!

Baking Your Frozen Scones:

Make sure your oven is pre-heated before putting your scones in the oven. This makes a difference in the results of your scone. Place your straight-from-the-freezer scones onto a parchment-lined cookie sheet. You can sprinkle a cinnamon sugar mix at this time, if you like. Bake for 13-15 minutes and then check your scones. If the scones are dough-like, cook 1-2 minutes longer and test again. Repeat another 1-2 minutes if necessary. Keep a close eye on them at this point. Remove immediately from the oven once the scones are a golden brown on top. It is normal for the scones to take an additional 3-5 minutes longer to cook if they go into the oven frozen.
